Our relationship with Thomas is complicated. He is my parent's foreign exchange student from Köln Germany (known in English as Cologne), that arrived while we were still in Berlin, that is now back in Köln, as we are back in Berlin for the second time. So he's our foreign exchange student- kinda.
We saw his home & family as we rolled through Köln in November and were excited to host him in Berlin. He wrote us two days before.
"Can I bring some friends?
Oh. Um...ok sure. The more the merrier!
Can they stay at your place?"
Teenagers.
Honestly, we worried about supplies as we are just sub-leasing and hadn't even seen extra towels, but we figured it would all work out. And it did. We actually did have loads of fun. It was one of those perfect Berlin weekends where bizarre happenings occur every 2 min but everyone (except us) is so cool they hardly even acknowledge it.
We just stayed in the second night where things got a bit rowdy. This is the weekend before Carneval which is huge in Rio and oddly, Cologne. Out came the singing...and dancing...and now embarrassment.
Hostel fee paid kids.

- Nazi demonstration with 10 people & a 100 protesters on our block- check
- Clothing store where everything is a euro - check
- Tiny table in the sidewalk- check

Thomas is your little German brother from different parents!! And for him - you are his older American sister (different than his two German sisters) and Ian is his bro (after all, Ian is everyone's bro!)
